Our ownership and birth

Occupational Awards Limited is owned by the National Skills Academy for Food & Drink. The NSAFD acquired OAL in July 2016.

OAL was set up in 2015 by sector skills council Proskills. The organisation achieved Ofqual recognition in May 2015, and was originally developed to support the furniture and wood manufacturing industries, with a strong focus on providing apprenticeship related qualifications and later apprenticeship end-point assessment services.

The intention behind the acquisition was to develop OAL into a high profile, market leading awarding organisation within the manufacturing industries in general; and more specifically to grow its provision of food industry focussed qualifications and end-point apprentice assessment services.  This acquisition will ensure that we can bring a depth of industry qualifications and assessment expertise back to the market, to enable the UK’s food & drink manufacturing sectors, and furniture manufacturing sectors to meet the demands of tomorrow’s world.

Governance and structure

Our governance

OAL is a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Skills Academy for Food & Drink with a separate governance structure. The OAL board operates independently of the NSAFD board. The OAL Chairman, John Whitehead, reports directly to the NSAFD board.

Our team

OAL is run by its own senior management team headed up by Chief Executive Amanda Clark, supported by sector qualifications and end-point assessment specialists.
