More than a million people are being made ill by their work, costing the UK more than £14.3 billion, according to new figures from the Health and Safety Executive.

The UK is one of the safest places to work in Europe, but an estimated 27.3 million working days were still lost because of work-related ill health or injury in 2014/15.  Over the year, 142 workers were killed and there were 611,000 injuries in the workplace. Of the estimated 1.2 million people who suffered from a work-related illness, almost half (516,000) were new cases.

The impact of workplace injuries and illness on individual people can be extremely damaging, causing problems beyond their working lives.  Keeping people safe should be a priority for all employers.

Occupational Awards’ globally recognised qualifications can help businesses to improve their health and safety by ensuring people have the skills and knowledge they need to implement and follow the right processes in the workplace.

We work in partnership with our training providers to find the best way to deliver the health and safety skills that businesses need, in the ways that suit the learners best.  We know that exams aren’t always the best way of testing learning, and we’re always happy to look at customising our qualifications to suit companies or learners who have struggled to find the things they need elsewhere.
