Retail team leading qualification overview

This qualification is designed to develop and confirm a level of performance for retail team leaders, so they have the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding to work effectively in their retail role.

On achievement of the qualification learners will have developed the level of competence which will enable them to perform consistently, reliably and productively in their work role, and make a positive contribution to their employment.

This qualification also underpins the delivery of the Retail Team Leader Apprenticeship Standard in England.

This qualification will support progression of learners to:

  • increased responsibility or promotion opportunities in work
  • level 4 vocational qualifications in retail/management/technology
  • apprenticeships for the retail industry
  • advanced operations, technical or management related job roles in retail

Who is the qualification for?

This qualification is designed for learners who are starting (or who are about to start) employment in a retail team leader role and are looking to learn and apply their skills in the workplace. Learners who have experience of retail operations and wish to continue their professional development will also benefit from the knowledge, understanding and skills that this qualification provides.

Retail team leaders provide a critical support to managers, delivering exceptional customer service and a positive experience to customers, and may have to deputise for managers in their absence. The role is dynamic and in one day can involve a variety of different functions. Most significantly retail team leaders guide and coordinate the work of the team to complete tasks, identify and explore opportunities that drive sales, ensuring team members maintain business standards in relation to merchandising, service and promotional activities, in line with procedures. Retail team leaders gain the most out of their team on a day to day basis, ensuring they are fully trained and work effectively and to the best of their ability

Assessment

The qualification must be assessed using the following assessment method:

  • portfolio of evidence

Learners are required to achieve all learning outcomes within units of assessment. All assessment is subject to internal quality assurance within approved centres providing this qualification. External quality assurance of assessment and internal quality assurance within approved centres is provided by OAL.

This qualification is not graded; achievement certificates for this qualification are issued on the basis of awarding a pass only.
