Supply chain practice (FMCG) qualification overview

This qualification is designed to develop and confirm a graded level of performance for Supply Chain Practitioners, so they have the necessary skills, knowledge, understanding and behaviours to work effectively in supply chain operations in a fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) environment.

On achievement of the qualification learners will have developed the level of competence which will enable them to perform consistently, reliably and productively in their work role, and make a positive contribution to their employment.

This qualification will support progression of learners to:

  • increased responsibility or promotion opportunities in work
  • level 4 vocational qualifications in technical operations/management/quality and improvement
  • apprenticeships for management and the supply chain/logistics industry
  • technical/development/quality or management related job roles in supply chain/logistics

Who is the qualification for?

This qualification is designed for learners who are looking to learn and apply their skills in a supply chain practitioner role in a fast moving consumer goods environment. Learners who have some experience of supply chain operations and wish to continue their professional development will also benefit from the skills, knowledge and understanding that this qualification provides.

FMCG Supply Chain Practitioners work in one or more supply chain functions. Typical roles include Assistant Buyer, Junior Demand Planner, Junior Supply Planner, Customer Service Operative and Assistant Transport Planner.


The qualification must be assessed using the following assessment methods:

  • Oral Examination
  • Practical Demonstration/Assignment

Learners are required to achieve all learning outcomes within units of assessment. Assessment of skills will involve observation of learner performance carrying out a supply chain practitioner’s role in the workplace or in an approved supply chain environment.

All assessment is subject to internal quality assurance within approved centres providing this qualification.

Externally quality assurance of assessment and internal quality assurance within approved centres is provided by OAL.

This qualification is graded: fail, pass, distinction.
