About our furniture making qualifications.

Furniture makers are skilled craftspeople who make pieces of furniture. They may work in any type of business from a small independent shop producing custom furniture, to a large factory which mass produces furniture.

The first of these qualifications – the NVQ in furniture making – supports delivery of the new furniture manufacturer apprenticeship standard. The following four qualifications, can form part of the furniture, furnishings and interiors apprenticeship framework.

OAL Level 2 NVQ in Furniture Making – 603/0208/2

This qualification was developed with support from the Furniture Industry Employer Trailblazer Group, British Furniture Manufacturers, British Contract Furniture Association, FIRA, The Furniture Makers and the National Bed Federation.  It can be used to underpin the delivery of the furniture manufacturer apprenticeship standard.

OAL Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Furniture Making – 601/7607/6 (Expires 31.12.18)

This qualification forms part of the furniture, furnishings and interiors apprenticeship framework.

OAL Level 2 Diploma in Furniture Making – 601/7733/0 (Expires 31.12.18)

This qualification forms part of the furniture, furnishings and interiors apprenticeship framework.  It covers the basic practical skills and knowledge required to work in furniture making roles within the furniture industry.

OAL Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Furniture Making – 601/7608/8

This qualification can form part of the furniture, furnishings and interiors apprenticeship framework. It covers the advanced occupational practical skills and knowledge required to work in furniture making roles within the furniture industry.

OAL Level 3 Diploma in Furniture Design and Making – 601/7738/X

This qualification can form part of the furniture, furnishings and interiors apprenticeship framework. It covers the advanced practical skills and knowledge required to work in furniture design and production roles within the furniture industry.

Furniture manufacturer apprenticeship standard

Occupational Awards Limited (OAL) offers the qualifications which support the delivery of the furniture manufacturer standard, we are also approved to offer apprentice end-point assessment services for furniture manufacturer apprenticeships.

End-point assessment for furniture manufacturer

The end-point assessment can take place either in the workplace or in a recognised facility.

The EPA includes:

  1. Multiple choice test
  2. Observation
  3. Professional discussion covering portfolio of work

Performance in the EPA will determine the apprenticeship grade of fail, pass, or distinction.
