About our wood machining qualifications.

We have a range of five wood machining qualifications. The first of these supports the delivery of the new furniture manufacturer apprenticeship standard.  The following three qualifications form part of the furniture, furnishings and interiors apprenticeship framework. The final qualification is designed as a stand alone vocationally related qualification for those wishing to pursue a career in the sector.

OAL Level 2 NVQ in Woodmachining – 603/0213/6

This qualification was developed with support from the Furniture Industry Employer Trailblazer Group, British Furniture Manufacturers, British Contract Furniture Association, FIRA, The Furniture Makers and the National Bed Federation.  It can be used to underpin the delivery of the furniture manufacturer apprenticeship standard.

OAL Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Wood Machining – 601/7735/4

This qualification covers the basic practical skills and knowledge required to work in wood machining roles within the furniture industry. It forms part of the furniture, furnishings and interiors apprenticeship framework.

OAL Level 2 Diploma in Wood Machining – 601/7047/5

This vocationally-related qualification forms part of the furniture, furnishings and interiors apprenticeship framework. There is no necessity for any formal entry requirement to this qualification beyond the basic literacy and numeracy expected from anyone entering the wood industry. There are no age restrictions for this qualification.

OAL Level 3 Diploma in Wood Machining – CNC Machines – 601/7739/1

This qualification covers the advanced practical skills and knowledge required to work on CNC machines within the wood machining industry.  This qualification is part of the furniture, furnishings and interiors apprenticeship framework.

OAL Level 3 Diploma in Wood Machining – 601/7740/8

This qualification covers the advanced practical skills and knowledge required to work in wood machining roles within the furniture industry. This qualification is suitable if you wish to pursue a career in wood machining roles within the furniture industry. Ideally you should already have completed the Level 2 Diploma in Wood Machining or have an understanding of basic wood machining skills.

Occupational Awards Limited (OAL) offers the qualifications which supports the delivery of the furniture manufacturer standard, we are also approved to offer apprentice end-point assessment services for furniture manufacturer apprenticeships.

End-point assessment for the furniture manufacturer standard

The end-point assessment can take place either in the workplace or in a recognised facility.

The EPA includes:

  1. Multiple choice test
  2. Observation
  3. Professional discussion covering portfolio of work

Performance in the EPA will determine the apprenticeship grade of fail, pass, or distinction.
