Health and safety in the workplace qualification overview
The OAL Level 1 Award in Principles of Health and Safety in the Workplace is designed to raise awareness of health and safety and is applicable to anyone; particularly in preparation for entering a work environment. It is essential that everyone is aware of their own safety and the safety of customers, contractors and the public who might be affected by their actions.
The qualification covers the importance of health and safety in the workplace, hazards and risks, workplace conditions that can affect health and safety and the requirements for workplace procedures. The objectives of the qualification include meeting relevant programmes of learning, supporting a role in the workplace and giving learners personal growth and engagement in learning.
This qualification will support progression of learners to:
- OAL Level 2 Award In Health and Safety in the Workplace
- OAL Level 2 Award In Risk Assessment
- OAL Level 2 Manual handling safely in the workplace
Who is the qualification for?
The qualification is aimed at everyone entering the workplace for the first time – either as part of a work experience programme or at the start of employment – and those starting a new job, as part of their induction programme.
The qualification must be assessed using the following assessment method:
- portfolio of evidence
Learners are required to achieve all learning outcomes within units of assessment. All assessment is subject to internal quality assurance within approved centres providing this qualification. External quality assurance of assessment and internal quality assurance within approved centres is provided by OAL. This qualification is not graded; achievement certificates for this Award are issued on the basis of awarding a pass only.
