Assessing vocational achievement qualification overview

This qualification is designed to develop and assess the competent performance of those involved in the assessment of vocational achievement, so they have the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding to work effectively in their role.

On achievement of the qualification practitioners will have developed the competence to perform consistently and reliably, to meet the regulatory requirements of valid assessment in vocational qualifications.

This qualification will support progression of learners to:

  • entry into assessment roles in the learning and skills industry (Assessors)
  • level 4 vocational qualifications in education and training
  • level 4 vocational qualifications in internal quality assurance of assessment
  • increased responsibility in learning and skills management roles

This assessment qualification is designed for those working in assessment of vocational qualifications whether that is within a business environment, a college or a training provider. This qualification is designed to develop and assess the competent performance of those involved in the assessment of vocational achievement, so they have the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding to work effectively in their role.

Who is the qualification for?

This qualification is designed for Assessors who are involved in the assessment of either workplace competence or related vocational achievement. Assessors include those that assess competence-based or vocationally-related qualifications, and those that carry out the End-point Assessment of Apprenticeship Standards. They work in Awarding Organisation’s approved centres often located within colleges, universities, learning providers or businesses, or they work as Independent Apprentice Assessors for Apprentice Assessment Organisations.

Assessment

The qualification must be assessed using the following assessment method:

  • portfolio of evidence

Learners are required to achieve all learning outcomes within units of assessment. Assessment will involve observation of learner performance carrying out assessment activities. To complete this qualification it will be necessary for practitioners to have a minimum of 2 learners to work with, and these learners must be working in an industry/vocational area that the practitioner has occupational knowledge and experience of.

All assessment is subject to internal quality assurance within approved centres providing this qualification.

Externally quality assurance of assessment and internal quality assurance within approved centres is provided by OAL.

This qualification is not graded; achievement certificates for this Award are issued on the basis of awarding a pass only.
