Grading and moderation of vocational assessment qualification overview

This qualification is designed to develop and assess the competent performance of those involved in the grading and moderation of vocational assessment, so they have the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding to work effectively in their role.

On achievement of the qualification practitioners will have developed the competence to perform consistently and reliably, to meet the regulatory requirements of valid grading and moderation of vocational assessment. Those wishing to lead moderation activities also have the option to qualify in leading the moderation of graded assessment.

This qualification will support progression of learners to:

  • entry into assessment/internal quality assurance roles in the learning and skills industry
  • level 4 vocational qualifications in education and training
  • level 4 vocational qualifications in external quality assurance of assessment
  • increased responsibility in learning and skills management roles

This is a level 4 qualification, designed to develop and assess the competent performance of those who externally quality assure assessment, so they have the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding to work effectively in the quality assurance of assessment of vocational qualifications.

Who is the qualification for?

This qualification is designed for Vocational Assessors who are involved in the grading of assessment and contribute to the moderation of graded assessment. Vocational Assessors include those that assess vocational qualifications and those that carry out the End-point Assessment of Apprenticeship Standards. It is also designed for Internal Quality Assurers who are involved in leading the moderation of vocational assessment processes and practice. They work in Awarding Organisation’s approved centres often located within colleges, universities, learning providers or businesses.

Assessment

The qualification must be assessed using the following assessment method:

  • portfolio of evidence

Learners are required to achieve all learning outcomes within units of assessment. Assessment will involve observation of learner performance carrying out grading and moderation activities. All assessment is subject to internal quality assurance within approved centres providing this qualification.

Externally quality assurance of assessment and internal quality assurance within approved centres is provided by OAL.

This qualification is not graded; achievement certificates for this Award are issued on the basis of awarding a pass only.
